dog losing teeth

rh71

No Lifer
Somehow our Pomeranian is missing teeth... no idea where they went... he had a full bottom row and now only the "eye" teeth are left. All the top left are there but top right are missing.

Any idea what's going on ? Any conditions we should be aware of ? He's been acting fine though. He's 6 years old...

My 9 year old polmeranian has lost a lot of her teeth, the vet just said that it's normal with older dogs. They loose many due to poor dental hygiene - buy a dog toothbrush and start scrubbing away on poor little gummy. 🙂

Take it to a vet, dumbass. That's definitely not normal.

did you feed it hard food along with soft food? how about milkbones and the like?
he eats very little soft food that gets thrown into his regular "crunchy" food (he lives with my parents - so not sure what brand). He gets a doggie biscuit after that which is like a hard cracker. He also gets a hard chew toy that's edible (takes him days) once in a while.

Is that bad ? We thought they need to chew on hard stuff because it makes their teeth stronger.

I found out 2 minutes before I posted this. It's not like I'm sitting around wondering. Figured I'd post this first.

Now apologize.

Yikes... I just hope he's not actually older than we think - we picked him up at the shelter and they *thought* he was 3 at the time... we couldn't tell either way. That was back in 2000.

No...i think what he has been getting is good. That is what i was getting at. I've been told that harder things make their teeth stronger. I'd definately advise a vet. sounds strange.
