Police seek help in graffiti smearing of dog

Maricopa County Animal Control authorities are seeking the public's help to find the culprit who used hair or food color dye to paint graffiti on a white, female pit bull terrier.

"I have seen dogs with graffiti before, but I have never seen anything like this," said Julie Bank, a spokeswoman for Animal Control. "If you saw her from a distance, you'd think that black is part of this dog's natural hair color.

"She's just covered from head to toe."

Bank said officials are working with the Glendale Police Department to determine if the act of coloring the dog was gang-related.

"There's Spanish lettering, the word P-I-G and dollar signs painted all over her," Bank said. "Usually this kind of act is an indication of gang activity."

Bank called the roughly 60- to 65-pound female pit bull an "absolute sweetie." She was found this weekend in Glendale.

The dog will be held for 72 hours as a stray until it's claimed, according to Bank. If she goes unclaimed, authorities will try to find her a home as soon as possible.

"The black markings should come off, because it appears to be hair dye or food coloring," Bank said.

Anyone with information about the dog should call Animal Control officials at (602) 506-7387.

that is just wrong, leave the friggin dog alone. i hate people who mess with animals for no reason, they aren't bothering anyone.

EDIT: and if this is a repost, sorry. i searched dog and nothing came up, as this is from the 15th.

I hate to be a polyanna, but at least the idiots didn't cause her any physical harm. There are some real sadists out there getting their start in the world by perpetrating their macabre ways on animals...

What the hell? Can't you at least wait until someone actually says something instead of going preemptively antagonistic? Jeez.

yah i agree, atleast they didnt hurt the dog. but still, leave the poor thing alone. thats like justfying it if you woke up with spray paint all over your body with gang symbols all over you, and you being cool and saying 'hey atleast they didnt kill me' and not being bothered by the spray paint all over your body.

I agree. It's a freaking dog that didn't get hurt. Let's not overreact. I know we all feel sorry for the dog, myself included, but let's put things in perspective, people.

In the grand scheme of things using food dye to draw on a dog is pretty harmless.

If someone did it for a Halloween party or something like that everyone would find it funny.

Oh no, gang signs! Suddenly it's not funny anymore.

Give her a bath, it will come out. Worst case it'll be gone in a few months.

It's just not right to compare what a dog would feel to something a human would feel. How would you feel if you were strung on a leash and walked around?

that dog is adorable. its sad if a gang graffitied this dog....

on a side note: my dog (siberian husky/white shephard mix) had decided to play with a black sharpie marker when he was young. he managed to break the housing and when i came back to check on him, his face was smeared with black markings. it was hilarious

In case you haven't noticed, there's been a lot of whining lately about pitbulls all being dangerous/vicious creatures and how they need to be banned/eradicated. Untwist your panties and get back to work.

Some people pay money for women to walk them around on a leash, its kinky and arousing.

OK, some some douchbags put food coloring on a dog - OH THE HORROR!

I'd bet the dog loved the attention he got while it was done and could not care less that his is a walking graffitti canvas...

They're still asshats, but the indignant uproar is a bit overblown...

if that was normal, then I would feel fine. its not normal to put graffiti on a dog, just as its not normal to put graffiti on a person, or walk a person on a leash.

i know its not that big of a deal at all, its just kinda messed up. i guess its cause i would be pissed if someone did it to my dog. i am going into this under the assumption that someone did this to a stray dog, which is messed up. now if they did it to their own dog as something for halloween, then thats not as big of a deal at all. like you all said, it is harmless and will come out. i just dont like when people mess around with pets for no reason other than because its 'fun'.

haha, I think the picture is funny.

The dog is fine, people. This is like drawing on your friend's face when he passes out drunk.
