Absolutely horrible. I let him outside to go bathroom and 30 seconds later he was scrambling to get inside. I checked to see what it was and then it hit me. This smells nothing like the dead skunks on the side of the road. It is much stronger and resembles burning rubber. The worst part is it seems that it took no more than minutes for the smell to cover everything in my home.

Are there any good remedies for this? I bathed my dog several times and I can no longer smell anything but I fear that this may be because I am just getting used to it. I can handle a little scent but I am more concerned about myself smelling like skunk for the next week.

If your co-workers complain about the stink, just explain to them what had happened. I'm sure they understand.

Nothing will get rid of the smell totally. My dog got sprayed in the face in March of last year because my ex'es dumbass sister thought the skunk was a cat... Let my dog go up and sniff it, got sprayed directly in the face. Not a good time. There is some stuff you can buy from the store that works pretty well, but the smell won't totally go away. I don't smell it on my dog anymore unless he gets wet.

Give him a bath in tomato juice, that will kill the smell.

From the linked article.

"The reason that people think skunk spray and tomato juice cancel each other out is due to something known as olfactory fatigue, which is just another way of saying that your nose gets accustomed to a scent after a period of time. When your nose stops detecting the skunk spray, the strong smell of tomato juice tricks you into thinking it must have taken care of the problem. However, if another person were to enter the room, he or she wouldn't be so easily fooled."

The solution is:

"So if curious Fido happens to frighten Pepe Le Pew, all you need to do is mix 1 quart (.95 liters) of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, a quarter cup (59 milliliters) of baking soda and one teaspoon (5 milliliters) of liquid detergent and lather him up [source: *Dean]. After five minutes, rinse off your pup and he should be as good as new. Be warned: This potion may do a little more than take away the smell as it can also slightly change hair color. Also, you can't store it in a closed container for the next time Pepe comes around because the mixture releases oxygen, which could break the container "

Consider yourself lucky she did not call "kitty" in the house.
