Was this the father of the hostage-taker/police negotiator genre? 1975 seems a bit late for it, but I can't remember anything earlier that has such direct connections to movies like 'The Negotiator,' 'Inside Man,' 'John Q,' and 'Phone Booth.' In fact it seems Denzel Washington might owe his career to this movie.

Also theres 'The Taking of Pelham One Two Three'.

But I recently watched a very well-done documentary done on John Cazale. They lined up some great guests to talk about him and his career. Talk about a career cut short.
