He's not acting strange, and I don't know how much he actually devoured. He was chewing on it, and some of the heads were broken off and gone.

Call poison control.

Then rub his belly really fast. Although they probably weren't strike-anywhere so it won't do anything.

actually, eating matchheads is a good way to repel mosquitos, b/c the sulfur in them gets excreted through ur skin.

i've done it a couple times, and it works!

so there shouldn't be any harm, methinks

You should check for a bowel movement within the next 12 hours. If your dog is "stuck" then he's got intestinal blockage and should be taken to the vet.

Darwin award?

The dog will be fine, IMO.

Not sure if this matters, but I know of someone that ate a book of matches every day when he went camping...said it kept the mosquitoes away.

Probably means it's not so bad for you or a dog...

I'd call, just to be safe though

thats our rule of thumb. if the poop and they dont show any other problems, they should be fine. check the poop too, to make sure they pass what they cant digest.

our dogs have eaten clothes, shoes, toys, just about anything they could get their mouths on. our big one even ate a whole chicken breast. he puked some blood chunks, but took a dump about 20hrs later and he was fine.
