Listen to this

update:
Yup, engine is dead. Unrepairable they say. New engine needed. They said a new Grand Am engine is $4000(the car is only worth $2500), a used one from a junkyard is $900. Warrenty will cover that, but they still have to find out if they will cover a new engine or just a used one. I'm not driving a car with an engine pulled out of a junkyard...if that's what they do, I'm selling it when the repairs or done. I can get an early 90's civic or camry or something that will be more reliable.

Did you bother to look and see if the fan was hitting something, or it was some other obvious thing, or did you just start driving it around like that?

stop putting baseball cars in the spokes of your wheels to give it that rattling sound.

That sounds like a noisemaker for New Year's... One big noisemaker.

I think you should keep posting about it and never get it checked. No bother to investigate whether or not there's something wrong - it obviously sounds awesome.

Yea, I looked, sound is coming from the engine itself. I don't know a whole lot about cars, neither does my dad, but he said he thinks something is wrong in one of the cylinders, causing it not to function properly, and make all of the noise, because when I drive it, in addittion to the noise it makes, it runs slow, like it revs like normal but it doesn't have the usual acceleration. And I know not to keep driving it, when I took that video, I was driving to the service station, that's where I pulled in at the end. It is getting checked out on Monday...I love this machine.

It goes well w/ the trance music. Industrial style.
Its actually progressive house :p Its great how you could still hear the engine rattling over the music, I had it up pretty damn loud.

Wow, if it's not something obvious then I'd have to guess valvetrain. That's not any kind of cylinder noise I've ever heard. You're probably looking at some serious money.

I was thinking exhaust leak, but about the only way to get that noise out of the exhaust would be to have one port completely open....

Is that a Chrysler?

BTW, sounds like my car did a few summers ago when the rods started knocking (had a head gasket leaking oil and had to get a rebuilt engine)

Is it running rough at all? Could be serious, could be simple.

EDIT: Forgot to add, I had a problem like that a while back and it turned out to be a bad sparkplug wire.

If that came from the engine you are lucky you made it to the service station.
Sounds like a bad rod bearing or something in the valvetrain.
What rpm where you running in the video?

I was just going to say that it could be a rod getting ready to throw. Be glad it hasn't gone, because it's not uncommon for a thrown rod to pile-drive itself right through the crankcase.

Wow, that's godawful. I was also thinking it might be an exhaust manifold leak but.. um.. wow that's a really bad noise. hehehe.

No signs of anything visible going on under the hood?

Does it happen to be a GM car with a 3.1 V6? My dad's corsica made a similar tapping sound. There was a problem with the valvetrain, as some one else said, but it wasn't worth fixing. We just switched to a thicker oil.

Just slow, and you can feel the noise it makes rumbling in the gas pedal.

Is that a Chrysler?
Nope. '94 Pontiac Grand Am SE...114,000 miles

Not very high, because I was following my dad there, and he drives like a grandma.
