Doesn't anybody use xroach on *NIX?

A search of the forums didn't turn up anything for xroach. I've always wanted to try it, and I finally loaded it on Linux. It's fun.

I was always disappointed that I didn't find it in Solaris, so maybe it was my subliminal motivation for getting Linux. Of course I had to use the roachcolor white option so I could see them in Blackbox.

Good idea. Roaches hide under your Windows and scurry around to hide under another when you move or minimize them. There are several command line options, the most useful one being squish. I just ran across it in a Unix book and thought it sounded like fun. Sort of like the Internet coffee pot I think, sort of a historical thing.

Bumpity-bump.

Cmon, aren't there any old unix guys out there who used to walk miles through the snow for one more compile and all you had for fun was xroach?

Do you think X-windows will hang in there due to the popularity of Linux? Or will Microsoft steam-roller it?

I think the complaint about it used to be that it was a memory hog, but who cares now with today's hardware?

I just mention it because it seems like xroach must have been written as a demonstration of the capabilities of X-windows.

Xwindows will stick around. There is no doubt about that. It is slow, bulky, and a pain. But the benefits of running that over something like the Windows GUI are just worth it in my opinion.

Never heard to xroach. I avoid most of the bundled xfree86 software (twm makes me shiver).
