I want to put this on my k8n neo2 mb can I keep the backplate on included with the mb, and just remove the retention frame. Or do I have to use the one included with the zalman ?

You need to use the included one. The standard backplate is glued onto the mobo, pry it off carefully with a plastic phonecard.

rats, thats a major pain. Basicly that means I have to completely disassemble and reassemble my whole computer just to put the plate on :) Oh well, hopefully it is worth the cooling improvement :)

Read around the MSI forums to see if it works with the existin plate. Supposedly the zalman 7000 non a will work the original plate

There are three 7000 revisions: Non-A (just 7000), A and B. If you have a 7000A you need to take off the original backplate, I installed a 7000A on a K8N Neo myself and I haad to remove it.

You don't need to take the plate off with the 7000A. The thing is the dimples they include are too tall when you use the standard backplate. If you use the screws that hold the retention plate in it works fine (minus the retention plate of course). The one problem you have to look out for is not to screw them in too tight. I use a msi neo plat.
