Does your WMP suddenly close?

I've had this issue always ever since I installed 8.1, across my 100 formats that I've done, every single one of them had this issue. When I play an MP3, it would run fine for about 30 seconds or so, then suddenly WMP would say it encountered an error and would close.

Now I can simply switch to another MP3 Player sch as AIMP3 but I would like to know why is this happening?

Do j00 guys face the same i$$u3?

First, I respect you want WMP to function normally if you never use it (I don't, and I run W7), and don't accept it crashes.

Codecs issue? Is the system fully patched?

100 formats????????

Yes, W8 not 8.1, but I would try it.

So fun (not) re registering dlls.
yes, I am OCD, if something is not perfect, or if I get a small error, format it is

I have ffdshow, LAV, madVR installed coz I need them on MPC-BE but why would those interfere with WMP?

someone told me to check the event log, i opened it, and got lost, it has many things I don't know where to look

K, thanks for explaining this. Feels like uber anxiety with the conviction u must do Draconian things. As opposed, I mean, to trying to remain calm with faith and troubleshooting so that you don't have to do the Off with Yr Head. And, pls know, I know of nobody free of such anxieties, tho they are individual-specific.

Were I you, I would use the link above and do what MS suggests. You have nothing to loose, after all. You could even print it out and just keep it right there in front of U.

My take is those should not create a conflict.

Pls download the free version of Whocrashed and run it:

http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed

But personally, I would first try what MS suggests. Not giving in to the anxiety and doing yet another reformat, will change things and empower you and start to do away with the anxiety!

First, correlation does not imply causation. Not logical getting Whocrashed did anything. Did U run it? if so, what did it report?

And, just curious, have you tried to play video files, flvs, etc., in yr W Media Player?

Addendum: nobody wants to start registering dll files if they don have to. Here's a possible, far simpler fix from MS, and you just might put this right only via #1. I like to try the easiest things first.

You have a few options.
  1. Back under the Add/Remove Programs, look to the left and choose "Turn Windows Features On or Off". There you can disable media player, reboot, then come back and turn it back on and let it reinstall.
  2. Use the System File Checker, which can replace missing system files.
Right-click the Start button and choose Command Prompt Admin, then type sfc /scannow (there's a space after the sfc) and press Enter to start the scan.

this issue happens even on a clean install.

I know. The Cybergod, in his benificence is trying to divest you of what I picked up on, so you are no longer held hostage by it. It's a Good Thing. Think of it that way!

Someone at MDL forums gave me this hotfix, it is supposed to fix many issues but the KB Article has gone missing, anyway, I installed it, let's see: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl....aspx?id=42278

Did I not ask U if yr system was fully patched?

IS IT?

It is, I always install all the latest updates, but this update was never installed. I don't even know how on earth the dude on MDL forums caught this fix but I'm glad he did.

Excellent. And, I am also glad he did. Did you install it?

But it isn't a fix, it's a PATCH, yes a hotfix. MS writes many fixes and good ones now, but this is an official patch. Not sure why it din show up in yr Windows updates, perhaps as optional.

This patch was released on March 14. Oddly, I can not find a working link to a detailed explanation in MS database. "Resolves issues in Windows" is not acceptable. It's murky. Usually, U expand a patch you get a clear, detailed explanation re what it does.
