Does your upper chest area ever get sore from drinking a soda in the morning?

This always happens to me. If I don't eat anything or even sometimes when I do eat something, and I drink a Pepsi, or a Coke, or even juice for that matter. I get this soreness in my upper stomach/chess area. I know I'm not crazy because a friend of mine says the same thing. It happens when he drinks any soda in the morning time. What the hell could be wrong? Does it happen to you?

Sorta.

One time I hadn't eaten anything all day cause I'd been working on my car. My buddy brought out one of those 24oz. bottles of Pepsi, right out of the fridge. I started gunning it, and I got this sensation like I really had to burp, and wham - I passed out.

The reason your chest is hurting is probably due to the carbonation that is inside the soda. If you drink it down too fast - especially on an empty stomach, you will definitely feel a sort of burn in the upper chest region... I suggest you not drink soda in the morning... instead, try for something uncarbonated =)

it sounds like heartburn of a sort, where something agitates your stomach and causes acid to wash up into your esophagus, not very good feeling, but not harmful as long as not a constant happening. just change your morning diet a bit - get some food in your stomach b/f u drink a soda

<< hold up, 6-8 liters a day! how are you still alive? >>

I know that's a joke, but 8 liters of soda a day won't kill you....OK, maybe rot your teeth, but that's about all, unless your pancreas cannot process enough insulin to deal with the sugar.

Cant say that happens to me, but, if I dont eat enough, and at exactly the right time, I get these awful stomach cramps, so bad I can't even stand upright. My mother thinks I'm hypoglycaemic; I just think I have a stupid stomach.

6-8 liters of coke? we're talking like 700+ grams of sugar per day here...fsck that's terribly unhealthy. you're probably overworking your pancreas. sugar makes me fat...i sniff a cookie and gain 2 lbs, so i don't really eat it...at all :(

Another reason could be an esophageal spasm, the esophagus is a muscular tube & cold drinks can initiate a spasm. I've known MD's who've had them & think they're having a heart attack.

If you're under 30, I think you'll be ok:)

I have learned over the years that when something hurts, I just don't do it if I can avoid it. ;)
