Does your PS2 do this?

Sometimes when I power it up, doesn't matter what game I am playing, it goes to the browser screen and doesn't do anything. I have to restart the PS2 over and over again until it decides to load it. Sometimes this takes up to 10 minutes. Anyone else have this problem?

your ps2 is dying. It is a well known (and documented) problem that sony is aware of but they could care less. Check "ps2 disc read error" on google and you will see 1,000's of stories about it.

Send it in for repairs and bitch and yell until they comp the repair. That's what I did. I treated my PS2 like royalty; there was no reason it should have died in a year.

If it's under warantee, get it replaced. If not, do the whole Wal-Mart switcheroo thing.

this happens sometimes with my Gameshark (blue bottom). I had 2 PS2s, one a v4 the other a v5R that did this, but never have a problem with other games.

I seriously doubt any of the 3 consumer video console companies is very different.

Is there anything coming out on PS2 you want ? Is there on XBOX ? XBOX definately seems to have more AAA games then PS2 this year but it all depends on the games you like.

You sir, are an idiot!

The only people that should be responsible for this is sony, I dont see any reason why Walmart should be meant to suffer because they employ a system of trust with their customers on a large basis.

It's menaces like you which are sending alot of very good VAR's out of business.

I've had the same thing happen to me...and before you send your PS2 for repairs...try seeing if your games are scratched or dirty. I was having a problem with GT 3 before I cleaned the bottom of the game and it loaded up properly.

<rant>It won't be any better with an Xbox, at least not in my experience. After the price drop, I bought a brand new Xbox and it was defective (wouldn't read or eject discs without restarting), so I sent it back. Then I decided to get a refurbished one from somewhere else thinking that any problems would've been fixed, but that was not the case. I had the same problems again. Needless to say, I've given up on the Xbox... And to think I sold my PS2 to get an Xbox...</rant>

My PS2 has been doing this for quite some time and it still works just fine... Other than the fact that I have to turn it off in the back and turn it back on once in awhile of course. I have a launch PS2 from October 2000 ... Dont remember when the problem actually started but it was quite some time ago. I must admit though that I dont use my PS2 all that much since I got my X-Box :)
