does your power lock switch lock the driver's door when said door is open?

i was astounded when my gf's car wouldn't do it (2004 jetta). she said her old civic wouldn't do it either. i couldn't even press the stem in when the door was open.

i've never had a car that did that. is this something that is going to end up on every car, like having to push in the brake to move the shift lever into gear?

I don't know if mine does, but at very least it unlocks it when I close the door.

My car has keyless entry though.

Yup mine does. But it won't do it if the key is in the ignition (2000 Jeep Cherokee).

All the cars i've known do it, think its a standard thing, saves you from locking the car with the door open and getting it stolen!

My old car (97 Ford Taurus) would unlock the door if the driver's side door was open and you tried to lock it when the key was in the ignition.

In my car, I don't use a key for anything...even starting it. Also, I don't need to take anything out of my pockets or hit any buttons on a key fob to lock it or unlock it.

As to your question, yes, it locks the door when I hit the lock button in the car when the door is open.

i guess locking yourself out is more common than needing to leave the car, locked, when you don't have the key
