Does your physical proximity to a gasoline refinery have anything to do w/how much your gasoline is?

I don't have to read all the thread bitching about gas prices to know how much gasoline has gone up; my truck gets 14 mpg, so I know, believe me. 🙁

I've noticed that some are paying @2.00+ for a gallon of regular, while others are paying a minimum of $1.45 and up.

I live about 2 hours from where Texas refines most of it's petroleum; Corpus Christi. That's where the tankers bearing crude oil come in and dump it to the refineries.

Regular was $1.55 yesterday...kinda low compared to many others. Does my close physical proximity to the refineries have anything to do w/how much I pay?

Maybe to a point, but I think that local markets can have a lot to do with it. I can drive between two different cities 15 miles apart and pay $.25 more a gallon in one city than the other.

😕

Might be. Hess is pretty cheap in Jersey, especially around the Woodbridge area since their containers and corporate offices are pretty close...

It matters a little bit. I pass by the Wilmington, CA and Torrance, CA refineries often and they both have gas stations right nearby. Gas is a bit cheaper there.

No, not really. Gas is piped all accross the country in a nationwide pipline. The cost per gallon is negligable. The only trucking done is from the local storage tanks to the stations.

Another thing to note is: ALL GAS IS THE SAME. No matter what station you buy it from, it all comes from the same pipeline. All the gas companies share the very same pipeline, so their gas is all mixed together. The only difference is additives put in at the depots.

Hardly. The company owned Chevron station in El Segundo is as expensive or more expensive then the 76 I usually buy from. Bet you didn't know that the refineries around LA are set up to burn Iraqi Oil.

Oh God no. The farther away up the coast you get from the refineries in Jersey the cheaper gas gets. Up in rural Maine you can easily find gas that's $.40 cheaper a gallon than what you'd pay in the NY Metro area.

Lets see, if I drive 10 minutes to NJ, I can get gas on average 20 cents cheaper per gallon then in NY. You have to factor in the bridge toll. However, I usually go shopping or something so it kind of cancels it out...
