Yes. One needs a floppy to flash the BIOS on most graphics cards. And, AFAIK, my Soltek K8AN2E-GR doesn't have a windows-based BIOS flasher or a BIOS flasher built into the BIOS (like my old Abit NF7-S R2).

And let's not discount sentimentality. 😛

Actually that's not true. I've flashed my K8N Neo2 BIOS, Plextor 712a firmware, 6800GT BIOS, and my WRT54GS firmware w/o a floppy.
How?

So I don't need one for Memtest, or BIOS flashing apparently, OR for small file backups/transfers (USB flash drive instead), but I still need one to add some more "content" to the front of my case. 😉

Windows based flash utilities, DOS (or DOS-like) boot CDs. If you think burning a CD is a waste just keep an ISO image of it then burn onto a CD-RW.

For Memtest you would need a floppy, but thats about it.

Most MB manufactures provide a windows based BIOS flashing tool for the past several years. nflash will flash your nVidia card from a command prompt within windows. Plextor provides a single file windows firmware update tool, as well as Linksys. 😎

Well who here uses UBCD? That seems to provide it all, including Memtest, don't even need a floppy for that.

I just wouldn't be sure about the BIOS flashing, what if you come across a product that you want to flash and there's no app for it?

Most computers now do not come with a floppy drive.

One of the LAST relic of the first computer I ever owned. Uncle built me a computer (333mhz Celly) in 1998, and it had a floppy drive and zip drive...zip drive still in use, too, as well as the 6GB HD (back-up drive now)

Look about 20 posts back, I mentioned it already 😛

Yes I know, just want to see if a majority here uses it, and wondering what alternatives there are for BIOS flashing if the manufacturer does not provide an app.

Yes. Mainly because I have a bunch of old pics on floppy from the Mavica FD-73 days.
It makes bios flashes easier, too. I'm scared of automatic bios flashing utilities.
