Does your office throw parties or cakes for birthdays and such?

This is a small company, less than 30, but it's like that Seinfeld episode where Elain's office throws a party every day... we've been having like 2 every week for either somebody's birthday, or somebody leaving, or something.

I'm not complaining, free cake is great, just surprised how often this company does this.

I'll tell my coworkers its my birthday in 2 weeks. Maybe they will. Doubtful, just 4 programmers and me.

Yes, people occasionally bring cakes for someone's birthday, but not that often.

someone from HR gets a gift certificate for the person with the birthday, but beyond that, we don't do anything. too busy working.

I don't even know when most of my coworkers' birthdays are.

We have cake for our department once a month. It is for birthdays and employed anniverseries (5yr, 10yr, etc). And we go out for lunch (company pays) when someone leaves the department. Probably 30 of us in the departments included.

Whenever it's someone's birthday, someone brings a cake and everyone signs a card. It's weird, people think of police officers as attracted to donuts, but man, you should see them swarm around a sheet cake!

:)

We get nada so I don't even tell anyone. I don't want to get badgered about how old I am anyway.

I get emails monthly asking me if I would like to pitch in for this persons gift/cake and that persons gift/cake. My company is relatively small, at least in our location and I've been here a while so I know most eveyone here. That means I'm eligible to donate for their birthday.

I try not to be stingy however because I received $70 cash for my last birthday here. I'll be 21 in March, that should be a GOOD one.

Yup. Every time somebody leaves, or if there's a holiday, or if there's a birthday...

Generally, some very enthusiastic employees (not management) set it up (i.e. our Halloween potluck) and it's okay-ed by those above.

Free food and mingling = good.

we used to do it...except everyone had to pitch in to pay for it, as opposed to the boss buying a cake. everyone got tired of it coming up every 3 or 4 weeks and having to shell out for it and the boss is too cheap to shell out a few bucks for it, so we aren't doing it this year.

we used to have them all the time, it was getting out of hand. they were even sending flowers out for anniversaries and stuff. finally one of the VPs sends out an email saying something like "we will no longer have cake, and we will send flowers out only for funerals." I replied all "can I get a cake instead when I die?" the guy has an awesome sense of humor and replies "we will have to get approval on that :D"
