Does your office force two sided printing?

How about... "I don't work at a office." :)

My college has it at some printers and not at others.

Nope, we have about 3 b&w and 1 color on my floor. You can do double side if you want by selecting an option. Sometimes there's alot of utility to be found in single-sided printing, e.g. printing off spreadsheets and looking at two pages side by side.

No color on this floor. Company mandated 2 sided printing except for our department (and I suppose any others with a valid business purpose not to)

Depends on the printer you print to; we default to double sided but some printers (litigation, intellectual property for example) default to single sided because of the application of many of the print jobs. Color is restricted and we make user-by-user exceptions (advertising/marketing printouts for example).

We're strongly discouraged from printing in color, though the computers haven't been restricted to B&W only. Everything is printed single-sided.

same. why waste so much paper? especially since most of what I print are for my own use only (i.e. not sent out)

We don't force duplex on any printers because an extremely high number of our print jobs are spreadsheets, contracts, and other documents that generally need to be printed single-sided.

That said, I always manually enable duplex mode on most of my jobs.

dude, you know where i work and how they treat their employees, what do you think? :)

on another note, we're spending an unbelievable amount of $$ in our Notes to Outlook migration because people are whining about getting their blackberries wiped and losing their 99 cent ringtones they can't figure out how to save to a media card or their $2 million in chips in their texas hold'em game... sigh

Not only did the last company I worked for not force two sided printing, they also had their printer setup to print a cover sheet with the person's name on it who started each job. I guess it helped identify loose documents, but it seemed like a colossal waste of paper to me.

no, but the boss put up a sign that states that we have to charge any copies to clients or pay them out of our checks.

It's too bad they don't have AN English professor.

I remember once they pushed this thing where they wanted to make all printers double sided and black and white by default.

But we have so many crappy CGI coded legacy apps, that most of those bypass the print server anyway and print their own very screwed up way, so it never did much.

forced at school, but you can turn it off (your loss because it becomes 6 cents a page instead of 9 cents for a double side)

color costs 60 cents at school

at work? I FORCE it to go double side because I don't want 500 pages.

I liked my previous internship how they used laserpaper everywhere. Freaking 24 lb 96 bright paper in our crappy B&W printer. Initially they separated cheaper 20lb paper for the B&W and 24lb for color, but they ran out of the regular stuff and we seemed to only use laser paper. Funny too because we had days of no black toner and people would just print on the color laser printer. Gorgeous though.

I almost bought a color laser for at home. The quality is amazing for pictures. Bubble jet printers are good for photos too, but you can print like 5 and you need to go spend 60 bucks on a new cartridge.
