Does your large screen HDTV double as a PC monitor?

Just curious how it looks and if you are happy with it. I am thinking about selling my 2005 FPW in favor of a larger HDTV (with DVI) for the family room and putting together an HTPC.

From my testing the best looking rear projection HDTV seems to be LCD projection, I took my laptop into brandmart and they let me do some testing so I hooked up my laptop to a few different TV's and the LCD projection was perfect looking, even on text. All TV's tested were at 720p.

I've only connected my PC to one HDTV before, but it was an LCD rear projection..and I also thought the image quality (for games and even text) was very good at 720p. 🙂

You gotta have HD channels to see the difference. Your normal analog/digital channels will actually look worse on a big HD screen.

27" Olevia LCDTV .... use it for some HD program viewing... very happy with it. It's capable of 720p so I can't wait to use it for XBOX 360 also. My 57" Sony out in the living room doesn't do 720p. 🙁

On th contrary, my Panasonic AE700 is a monitor (projector) that doubles as a HDTV. And I play WoW on it too, talk about a bulb burner. Which reminds me I have to clean the filter.

if you mean my 57" Sony... I'm pointing out the fact that I have such a nice big screen that's barely 3 years old and it's not even as good as my 27". My 🙁 has nothing to do with the x360... just the fact that my big screen has already become inferior.

I'm eyeing one of those Westinghouse 37" 1080p's for the holidays! How do you like the Sceptre? How much was it?

I've had both the Westy 37" as well as the Sceptre now. Both are great for HTPC use with their 1920x1080p input/display capability. The Sceptre is a little cheaper and not as "refined" as the Westy (blotchy menus, less screen controls), but still works good for my use.

I really really wish I had a 1080P display, however, for now I'm using a 720P 27inch HDTV LCD as a monitor for games.

It runs 1280x768 and everything looks nice, but it's nothing compared to that 37inch that ST has. That thing looks fvcking awesome.

That being said, I've also got a 61inch Toshiba rear projection in my living room, the thing isn't Hi-def, and so I don't use it hooked up to a PC except for a few rare ocassions. Video played through a PC looks OK when on Svideo, but the low resolution and the interlacing do not do justice to games.

I'm browsing AVS impressions of the Sceptre, and I'm pretty impressed. The included tuners and better response time and contrast ratio for about the same price as the Westy is damn tempting...hmm...

EDIT: Whoa, there's an optical out for the ATSC tuner hiding in there too! I'm sold. 😀
