Does your hard drive constantly crunch?

These servers are driving me crazy. All the drives start crunching on off about every second like a bunch of quartz clocks in unison. It's really annoying. Obviously they cannot be turned off. I notice most ntfs boxes will do this when downloading a big file. Is there a registry key or something that can change the frequency that the buffers are commited so this can be made to sound more random and less rhythmic? Like rain on a bimini top! -M
