does your grocery store sell ground meat by the pound?

or by price?

my grocery store annoys the hell out of me and I'm a little curious if it's just my ghetto ass store or if all stores do it.

the pre-packaged ground meats are sold by price, not pound... so, while tonight, I only needed 2 pounds of ground beef to make hamburgers, all the packages were sold in weights such that they'd reach an even dollar amount.

at $3.49/pound, the smallest available package was 1.15lbs ($4.00) leaving me with 0.3 lbs more than I need.

and obviously it's not a big deal, I'll either increase the recipe relatively and make an extra burger or brown it with some seasonings to make a burrito or two, but still, it annoys the fuck out of the OCD part of me.

I've never been to a place like that. Lots of places will let you ask the butcher for the exact item/quantity you want.

yeah. we have 3 nice stores with meat markets. you can buy it by the pound and its good meat.

they also pre-package it. but its usually 1.13 lb or so.

By the pound, but wide variation. .3lbs is hardly going to throw off a recipe, and only make a rather small burger.

Ive never heard of this myself. I cant remember any store anywhere Ive been to that does this. Its always sold by the pound (+/- .10 lb depending ont he prepackaging).

You can buy it prepackaged, in which case the weights hover aroud 1lb 2lb or you can go to the deli and order it there by any poundage you want

the albertson's near me does both depending on the brand.

Some brands will pack ground beef so that they are all like 1.2lbs for $3.99 or something.

Then you have albertson store packaged ground beef which can vary like .80lbs to 1.30 (or whatever range they use) and the prices fluctuate accordingly.

I think you're a little too anal about your meat.

Every grocery store I've shopped at sells by the pound. You can usually find various weighted packages between 0.7 and 1.3 pounds, which is nice.

The only places I've seen that is any difference is Wal-Mart where all of their packages contain exactly 1 pound.

I think it's done randomly where I shop. I see weights of 1.19, 1.02, .97, 1.43, 1.23, and so on. I think its the "yeah, that looks about right" method.

only time i see that is the ground beef or turkey in the plastic tube, they are all 1 lb. all the stuff in the foam trays varies from .8 to 1.3 or so and it is all priced by the pound.

Protip:

1) Press the magical doorbell button by meat department
2) A magical fairy will appear
3) Request exactly 2 pounds of ground beef from this meat fairy
4) ???
5) Profit
