I noticed on the outer edge there are half inch stratches on my dvds...I handle them well from case to player so I think my player is doing it... A couple of dvds I rented last week had them too...so is that a flaw in dvds or what? DVD-DR. saved a couple dvd's already but..it sucks to have to go through the trouble of resurfacing them.....

I can't say any of my DVD players or drives hurt my DVD's. Maybe your case is scratching them?

Agreed, my PC DVD-Rom, PS2 & stand-alone DVD player haven't left any scratches on any of my DVD's.

I'd say anything that's brand name - ie, a Panasonic, JVC, Toshiba.

That's a good one for the price although I haven't tried it yet (I'm in LA right now....my dad is the only one whose used it so far)

I completely agree. Read ALL of wje's excellent posts in that thread. You can buy a great DVD Player, much better than entry level for around $100 - $150.

mine doesn't scratch DVD/CDR/CDRW at all, although they get scratched often outside the player

it's true, but only on the cheapo players.
we have a demo DVD player at work, don't even know the brand. and we keep a dvd in it on a loop all day.
i took it out to switch it the other day and it had REALLY DEEP scratches around the outside. it's been inside the player since it was opened so it has to be the player.

Some more information on that thread (i did post it over there, just repost it here for some lazy Aters :)

FYI, the RV32 does not play DVD+R or DVD+RW. It will play DVD-R, DVD-RW, however. The RP72 model from Panasonic is another good one to go with. Built-in Dolby/DTS decoder (gives you direct 6 channel output), 5 disc changer, progressive scan...; play pretty much everything, including DVD-RAM. yes, it does play DVD-RAM
