Does your desktop resolution affect the quality of movies?

Example: Say you are at 1600x1200 and you open up movie.avi and full screen it. Would this be more stretched and look worse then if say, your resolution was at 800x600 instead?

Well, unless the avi was encoded at 1600*1200, it will stretch and pixilate. That could simply be my experience, but because of that I say yes. (All of my divx 3.11 movies do it, but my xvid and divx 5 movies are much better at stretching...they still pixilate though)

so when watching movies, i should bring my desktop as small as possible? since most movies are encoded at under 800x600 anyway

i watch movies on my tv which i have set to 640x480 😛

well, i did till i got my xbox 🙂 now i just watch em on that...

Oh, you mean movies on the hard disk... i dont DL movies, so couldnt tell ya 😛

I think it'll look the same (assuming you're on a CRT). At 1600x1200, it'll be 4X as pixelated, but the pixels are 1/4 the size... so it'll look the same as if it was full-screenamagized at 800x600. Methinks.

*shrug* it's possible. It's really a matter of personal preference. You either will notice it or you won't care. I've noticed it so I care. If you don't notice it, don't worry about it.

as long as the resolution of the screen is higher than that of the mowie you should be OK. avis and mpgs scale really good to larger sizes (at least for me)

If you do a full screen jobber on Media Player or something dosent it resize it for you so it always looks the same?

Wait.. forget that.. I know from pr0n it will look bad.

Most divx movies look fine though.

Yeah, that's my thoughts too.
