Our guy is Steven Block. All incoming sales inquiries are screened by our receptionists and forwarded to his extension. I just cleared the voicemail of the extension and there were over 120 messages. Some lady must of called 7-8 times about janitorial service for our company. Many of the other calls are companies providing vague IT solutions or products.

I remembered clearing one that went like this:

"Hello, this is ..... I'm calling today about Microsoft Exchange Server. If you would like to know more please call me back at ..... thank you...".

Occasionally a few calls do get through to us due to their shady tactics. There was a guy who called in and said he's from xyz company and that someone here left him a message and he was returning the call. Thing is, he can't seem to remember who called him and asked if he can speak to me about his services. I tell him, "I believe it was Steven Block that called you and he will gladly speak to you regarding your services. Let me transfer you.":D

I don't know if we have one, but I sure need to find out... without fail every Monday I get a phone call from Crystal Springs water about "renewing our contract" with them. I don't know how I became the sole representative of a Fortune 500 company's water-cooler-contract-maker, but I'm just about ready to pawn it off on someone I don't like. :p

A former large company I worked for did. Karen something cant remember the last name. They wanted a familiar name to always correspond with customers. All emails would be signed by her (even had an image of her signature, made by another female worker with a different name)

Funny when people on support calls would DEMAND to speak with Karen. They used to get really angry with her because she was NEVER available, and they only wanted to speak to her, since they had developed such a personal relationship via email.

EDIT: just realized you meant for sales/telemarketing calls. No, we just hang up on them. I thought you meant for support/PR type calls/emails.

Ext 209:)
I installed a new phone system when they moved into the new office, and I had to set up 209 and was told of the purpose. It is a desk that a few people use as needed, and they are warned to ignore the message waiting indicators.

Nope, not that I'm aware of, though it sounds like it could be fun! :)

However, I work at an air force base, which is almost as much fun. Occasionally we'll get a cold call from some company's computer calling machine, which waits for someone to pick up & say hello, then puts you on hold to wait for a real person to hawk their company's crap. Every time I've answered the phone on one of those, I patiently wait until the real person gets on the phone, then explain to them that their machine called an official phone number of the US government, and would they rather ensure that our number is removed from their list, or hear what sort of law they've broken by calling that official number??
Of course, there's no law broken.......but I never get a rude person who tries to talk over my efforts to tell them to remove my name (like at home), and always get a profuse apology and assurances they'll never call that number again! ;)

I'm just waiting for the day I get someone with attitude, so I can act like I'm talking to someone else in the office, telling them to trace the call, and maybe mentioning Guantanemo!!

My son just got a job doing b-to-b telemarketing for various clients. He likes the job because of all the crazy people he gets to talk to.

The guys have a long list of fake employee numbers/extensions that they can call to fill their quotas when they are getting a little behind.

They get really annoyed when an actual person answers the phone and throws them off their schedule.

when we set up our VOIP system we created a voicemail box and a line presence just for these types of calls. No one ever checks that voicemail either...
