Mine has a power, normal, and snow mode. It's a blast to drive in power mode but after a quick dash I can literally see my gas gauge move a few notches lower.

I had a Saturn that had a normal and performance mode...
but if I want my Dakota to shift later, I just get out, adjust the detent cable, and get back in and drive ;)

Was that feature even in mad max? In the road warrior I always thought that button turned some extra cylinders on and off in the engine to conserve gasoline.

And yes, my car does have a power mode. It's called setting the boost at 15 PSI and flooring it.

Actually, there is a chance that it does in fact change the fuel mixture and timing on some cars.

I know that on my 300ZX, there is a different fuel map for 5th gear as opposed to the other gears. When I shift into 5th, it uses a different fuel map that runs leaner, optimized for fuel economy. There's no reason why a car manufacturer couldn't use different fuel/timing maps when certain buttons are pushed.

You never really know until you look at the maps in the ECU.

I have different cars for different purposes.....a little "power" switch just isn't going to cut it.

It increases the air-fuel ratio with quicker and higher shift points. You can totally feel a difference in performance in power mode at the expense of gas mileage.

Shens on that one, google "3-way catalytic converter". If they don't run near stoichiometric, the cat won't work, and the EPA will ream them.

My bike has a "performance economy" mode..it gives you phenomenally high mileage along with excellent performance, but vastly increases your chances of dying in an accident. There appears to be no way of turning it off, either :)

And umm gas pedal on the right...i love flooring it and watching the tach hit 7000 instantly and feel my car jump :) then i get sad when i feel it ready to shift again around 75-80 but i have to slow down cuz i cant afford another ticket :(

flicking the shifter to sport mode adjusts the shift points for better performance, kills my mpg though
