Does your body need to adjust to a high fat diet?

The human body is an amazing machine, and it will make an adjustment attempt to almost anything you eat or don't eat.

If you are jumping latest unhealthy high fat fad, "keto" diet, there is typically an uncomfortable transition to creating/burning Ketone bodies efficiently.

How well you adjust to this emergency survival mode, will in large part depend on individual genetics.

The main adjustment your body goes through when you make major diet changes is the gut bacteria. Your gut bacteria feeds on what you eat and if you change what you eat the bacteria that used to get fed will die off. New bacteria will come in with your new foods and will start to populate your gut and eventually thrive. This can create some digestive issues during the transition.
Actual useful research about gut bacteria and how it important it can be for overall health is relatively new though some things are starting to be understood.

I would think switching to to a ketogenic state is an even bigger adjustment. It's an energy pathway many people have probably never really spent any time using. Many people feel different burning ketones, and the full adjustment can take weeks, though it appears the first week is the hardest. Many call it: Keto Flu

Nope, it just keeps building from there. Keep it up and soon you won't need to sleep at all, and then you can work 2 full time jobs and still have time for a rich social and several hobbies.

If you're talking keto, 4-6 weeks is considered 'normal' for full fat adaptation. The first 3-7 days are rough though.

This is the reason why most Fad Diets "work" in the short term.
