Your brightness is way down...Mine's everything is @ 50 (%). I've had it for two weeks and the 24" size keeps getting smaller and smaller (seriously) and probably wanted a 30" next. :)
Back to subject, heck no way I sometimes game for 2-3 hours straight and it's just right for me, may be I'm more used to it since I've been using LCD panel for years.
It could very well be your eyes too. May be it's time to see your O.D.;)

By the way don't mean to jump in and hijack, but does anyone know who makes this monitor for Dell?

Then later if I buy one I'll come back and tell you if it hurts my eyes too. ;)

THANKS

When I first got my 2405 it gave me headaches. Then I turned the brightness down and bumped the gamma down with the Nvidia Forceware. Now I literally stare at my 2405 for hours with no complaints.

Don't blame Dell for setting the brightness high enough to fry your retinas. Every tv in Circuit City has its brightness set to max (the better to lure you over from across the store) and people complain if their monitors didn't have comparable brightness out of the box.

In addition to turning down the brightness, standard ergonomic practices should be followed to reduce eye strain. Don't sit in front of the computer with all the lights off. Try and have the top of the monitor be at eye level (looking straight ahead or downwards dries out your eyes less than looking upwards). And take a break every now and then and look away from the monitor. That widescreen goodness will still be there wen you look back.

Push comes to shove, you can always spend a few hundred bucks to have your set professionally calibrated. I used it for my home theater RPTV a few years ago and it was well worth the $$$.
ISF
My other $.02

wow...100% brightness?

i'm only using the default which i believe is set to 50%
and it's already pretty damn bright
although not to the point where it'll give me headaches

Nope just the pocket book, I wish I could "try" one to see if it's worth it.

LOL - All dells are like that. Crazy/ I have 2005 and 2001 both are setup <50% brightness

Well..... got rid of my 21" CRT Dell as it was starting to show it's age. So I did some reviews and bought this monster. I was using an HP L2335 at work and liked it. But I thought 24" is better than 23" !! Well, I have mixed feelings. I never had a problem with eye strain on my old monitor. But have noticed with this 2405fpw my eyes are bothering me. I adjusted the brightness to pretty much zero , adjusted the colors to recommended from widegaming forums. I even changed my light in the office to a normal light bulb with shade ( had a halogen light with spot lights ) AND added a desk light. After this I changed my icons and text to a larger size. ( at 1900x1200 everything is so small !! ) I think it is better, but still seem to have more eye fatigue than the HP at work. Although, it is in a large room with tons of flourecent lights.

I called Dell and asked for a possible exchange, they said no problem. I was thinking of a 2001P or 2005FPW OR wait for the new 2007FPW. Maybe they have corrected some of these issues. The reviews on this 2405fpw are pretty much 95% saying WOW and one of the best there is. Which is why I bought it. ( 899.00 canadian btw +tx ) I am getting used to the HUGE size and would have a hard time getting smaller, but i also would like to be able to see things after using it!!! lol

I know the HP uses different screen technology and I actually can see a little screen door on it. My Dell has no such screendoor. I don't have much time and I have to decide !!! Is it just too big? Bad backlight engine??

Optimal settings are I find:

34
33
32

Brightness 25.

I know theres a site with calibrated settings that suggest 37 for red. But trust me it's too high. Too much of a red tint to everything.
Counter strike office walls look copper tinted. Juts a tad.
34 for red is better.

Pretty much what I have, thanks for the settings. With all the reviews that are possitive, I am surprised I am having issues. Maybe I am just not used to it. I did read that after a few weeks it "tames" down abit. Maybe the new 2407FPW will be better.

I've read how the Gateway produces a very annoying whine unless you increase the brightness to 85% or above. Does that mean that the Gateway would have an almost untolerable brightness if you wish to avoid the dreaded whine?

I hope so !!! Although, if Dell releases the 2407fpw for around the same price, I may trade mine. It has to be better than a 2405fpw for them to justify selling it.....
