Does yogurt ever go bad?

So I was diggin through the fridge for a midnight snack, and came across one of the large tubs of vanilla yogurt. It was about half gone so it was opened. Thing is, I remember buying this like 2 months ago and the expiration date on the container is Jan 4th 2006. Is it bad?
I smelled it and it smelled like yogurt so I ate some and tasted like it was supposed to. But then again yogurt has a bit of a sour taste to it anyway, so now that I've eaten several spoonfuls, I'm wondering if it really is spoiled after all. So am I gonna die?

Well it's most likely the sell by date on there so you should be ok, but yes I'm sure it does go bad.

how much time do you have by the sell by date?

milk = not much time, so im assuming yogurt is not much either...

yogurt is made from bacteria... so now you just get more of it for the same price 😛

That's my thought. If I leave it sit long enough, that sucker will fill right back up again!

yogurt can get pretty damn funky once mold starts to cultivate.

Yeah.

You certainly won't DIE from it. At the worst you might get a mild case of food poisoning, but nothing terribly serious.

That and cottage cheese sort of break the normal diary laws of the universe. It seems like its impossible to find a jug of milk that isn't going to expire in 5 days, but cottage cheese and yogurt have so much bacteria in them to begin with they last a long time.
