does xp pro sp1 OEM need to be activated??

Yeah activation is on both OEM and Retail versions...I think there are corporate versions that don't have it but I cannot be certain...

yes, it needs activation, but why not wait for a few days/weeks to get all your hardware troubleshot and working first (since you got an oem copy you must have bought new hardware too i assume)?

Wise words........ I wait right up to the last few days, I have heard and seen so many who do it immediately. Guess they like to call MS😀

Heh, I thought so too... then I looked on Newegg.

This is all you need
LOL, theyre so subtle

My uncle gave me xp home and said it was the version where I don't have to activate, but it kept asking. I bought the pro upgrade for $40 and installed it over home. It stopped asking...

Was it an OEM version from Dell or the like? Those don't need to be activated if installed on a machine with a Dell BIOS.
