Does XP Benefit from Dual-Core Technology ?

Does XP benefit from Dual-Core technology's ability to multi-thread and
other multi-core technology ???

If so, what performance changes could be expected over a single core CPU ??

Of course it does. Windows NT 4.0 and above has supported multiple CPU's provided the applications were written to be SMP aware.

With XP and Windows 2003 the OS got alot better and spreading the load over mulitple cores.

XP and 2003 officially supported Hyperthreading as well. (2000 would use it but it was not supported.)

I remember XP with hyperthreading on my Pentium 4 desktop vs my Dothan power notebook with a single core and no hyperthreading. You could tell a difference because of the Hyperthreading. Multi-core CPU's are even better.

You may be surprised, but Hyperthreading IS officially supported by MS on 2000. Read the MS whitepaper.

We had a mega-thread on this already. 2000 does not take advantage of hyperthreading. Dead horse. Please leave it be so that this thread does not get hijacked. Take it to a new thread if you wish.

To answer the OP: Yes. XP supports multi-core just fine.

The performance benefits will vary greatly depending on what you are trying to do.
