does working as a security guard at stores make you go crazy?

because i see alot that just stand there and their mouth moving around like talking to themselves day dreaming. another time i saw this guy thats in at break working as a guard at some stores in the shiopping center..... hes standing at the stop sign afraiding that i wont stop for him to cross.... i wave at him to go ahead and cross and he smiling at me while moving his lip.... he face away from me and his lip still moving. weird...... its like hes talking but no voice.

im thinking to be a secuirty guard for stores. it seems like an easy job just stand around all day no lifting stuff. but i am curious if i take the job and i will turn crazy???? like what i seen from several security guards at stores.

and do you need to go to a special school for it to get the job?

You don't have to be smart or educated at all to be a security guard, just over a bare minimum of intelligence and some CLEET classes maybe.
Sorry for the bad news.
🙁

soundmanblue im not talking about regular school education. does security guard need to be in security guard school before being hired? like train how to fight burglars and deal with shoplifters ect.... do it require to go to a security guard school?

Qualifications

Candidates for CLEET training must be U.S. citizens or resident aliens. The minimum age for training is 21, and a high school diploma or GED is mandatory.
Fingerprint clearance from the FBI and Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is required. Each candidate must be commissioned or appointed by his employer,
and he must undergo a psychological evaluation before filing the application forms for CLEET training. Candidates must also pass physical readiness and reading,
writing and comprehension tests before they are admitted to the CLEET training academy.

Do not major in criminal justice. It is a waste of time that will not help you land any job in security or law enforcement.

You may need a security license, which isn't a big deal. You will also need to have a decent criminal background, none preferred.

Stores generally won't have you fighting customers, but you would be surprised how many people you will be asked to detain for shoplifting, especially if you have an active loss prevention team.

People who steal from stores come in all shapes and sizes, from small children to old people. They are sometimes just doing it for the thrill, but they can be dangerous. Thieves may be on drugs, convicted of violent crimes, and have weapons.

You also will get the stink-eye from snobby customers who think you are just a renta-cop or wanna-be cop. People may not take you seriously because in reality, you may not have many legal options to back up your words.

Money isn't terrible, it probably pays better then the cashiers.

I never worked security, I would assume sec. guard and loss prevention will go hand in hand.

most people lie you become TSA employees....

If you like sitting in the same spot for 8 hours with the same people and nothing ever happens then it's for you. Most the dudes I see watch Netflix all day and seem to crave any human interaction they can get.

You're sounding a little special nicecold. if you interact with the general public like you interact in here you might get yourself in trouble fairly quickly.

Do you have a job now?

My father-in-law was director of security for a local horse track. The people they would put on is staff were just 2 IQ points away from drooling on themselves, so no...you do not need any special skills 😀

what store or type of store/business do you work at? If you don't mind 😀

I've worked several sites including warehouses, truck yards, office/engineering buildings, residential high-rises, hotels, and retail. I actually didn't do retail until Sept. last year and now I work directly for that retailer as a camera operator. They didn't want to let me go so I am still with the security company working enough random shifts to stay active with both employers (actually worked about 40 hours for them in the last two weeks). The crazies are all showed into out of the way places, like guarding the least-used emergency door in a warehouse somewhere during a graveyard shift.

As far as the pay, I make $0.50 less as an employee of the retailer but I get much better benefits, it's far less physical work, and that was the highest-paying security site I've ever worked by far, and I would've be working for far less much farther away if I didn't pursue it.
