Does WMP support DVD playback?

As above - I'm just wondering if WMP7 and higher can playback DVD's?

I currently use my Leadtek DVD player software - which has the 5 x region code changes built in. Not sure if this would also impose "x" number of region changes too though?

No problems at all with the Leadtek software but I'd like a workaround of the regional coding as my DVD ROM is a region free version (Delta 12x).

Any ideas?

I heard MS is selling a DVD playback kit for Windows XP which enables DVD playback with Windows Media Player.
The reason they chose not to include this feature with Windows XP is because they would have to pay high fees to the DVD consortium for each copy of Windows sold. It makes more sense to sell it seperately. Also, the kit is supposed to allow WMP to rip MP3's instead of WMA's. I don't know if it is available or not, all the old articles made it sound as if it would hit the shelves at the same time as WinXP, but I have never seen it. I suspect that it will cost about $50...

Actually, other software companies sell the DVD playback kit. MS gives you a choice for which to buy. Same thing with the MP3 plug-in. There is some way to get WMP to link to them but I don't remember how... Also, this info pertains to WMP8, I've gotten WMP6.4 to play DVD files by popping them in on older versions of Windows and double-clicking the *.VOB files. It looked like my DVD decoder was doing the work though...
