Does Windows Media Center 2005 Edition take a while to load up?

Are there a lot of services and what not that load up during startup? I am not familiar with this OS at all. Upon first starting this unit, I try to go to My Computer but I get the flashlight icon and it is moving back and forth. It takes a while before any of the drives show up. Is this normal with MCE?

It is normal that it takes longer since it is quite a few services running at startup just for MCE alone.
At times, you'll even get the guide tyring to update itself before the rest of the stuff which makes things worse (I hate it when it goes before my firewall is up)

There's four possible services that start for MCE, two are related to extenders, so I'm not sure if they start by default.

Plus, Noctural, it sounds like you're talking about after the computer has already started. Is this an OEM MCE box, or a homebrew? If it's OEM and you haven't wiped it, it probably has a ton of garbage running on it.

So to answer your question, no this is not normal for MCE 🙂 You should have the exact same performance as any other version of XP. If you have MCE playing and/or recording TV in the background while you do something else, perf may decrease somewhat, but you still shouldn't be seeing what you describe.
