I have a program that runs fine in XP and on my Windows 7 computer. I was told by the manufacturer of the program that it wont run on Windows 8 and that I will have to upgrade the program at a very high cost.
If I remember correctly, Windows 7 had some type of compatibility mode that would run XP programs if they didn't work in Windows 7
Does Windows 8 have such an option ?

There is a compatibility mode in Windows 8. But you may also want to consider running a VM installation of win 7 and running your application from there if it doesn't work. Win8 Pro comes with the new Hyper-V.

Find a shortcut to the .exe, or navigate to the .exe, right-click on it, select 'Properties', and under the 'Compatibility' tab, select which version of windows you want it to be compatible with. Try it like that for a bit and see if that works for you.

Seems to do the trick for some of Cisco's tools. This campus uses their NAC agent for access to the network, and it won't work properly without switching that compatibility back to Windows 7.
