There's this PC at a business that has this really weird issue where at random, it refuses to connect to the SMTP server. If you use putty it will also not connect. Basically this happens at random. You can keep trying, then suddenly, you'll connect. It might even work fine for hours or days, before it starts to be flaky again. Does Windows have any kind of setup where it takes over outgoing connection to port 25 and passes through an AV scanner or something? I've seen some antivirus programs do this, and when they get all flaky then it makes it hard to send mail.
Just trying to figure out what would cause this weird behaviour. Any ideas?
Rebooting the modem actually fixed it, but it may have been a coincidence. When this happens, the rest of the internet works fine. It's strictly SMTP. It's not the server, because we would have heard about it and there would have been lot of customer calls about it. (I work for the ISP)
