Does Windows 7 64 bit operating system and program executables use more disk space than 32 bit programs. Is it typically twice as much space?

Any idea how long before software comes only in the 64 bit version (instead of both 32 and 64 bit versions) and you need a 64 bit operating system to run it?

Is a 250 GB hard drive large enough for Windows 7 64 bit operating system?

TIA

Yes it takes more as it has all the 32bit libraries as well as 64bit. And hell yeah 250GB is enough. I have win 7 64 bit installed on my 120GB SSD as well as most of my major apps and still have 50-60GB free.

Thanks. On the Windows 7 machine I already have, my hard drive has a 100 GB partition "System Reserved" that Windows created for itself. Do you not have that on your system?

that should not be 100GB it should be MB. Windows creates that for some bitlocker stuff I believe, but I always prevent it from being created.

No I dont have it, is it a pre built system?

Alot of pre built systems have a restore partition thats a clone of the base install from the factory so it can be reset to original if the end user screws up his PC(virus, stupidity, whatever the case).

I also have disabled that shadow copy/system restore crap windows tries to keep for reverting back to restore points if something gets messed up. I do bi-weekly backups anyways and keep 3 months worth on hand so I dont need any more windows bloat and try to remove all that i can. Linux is so much more space efficient than windows.
