does win Xp pro need the VIA 4 in 1 drivers?

I have it loaded and it seems to run fine on my ASUS A7V266 wihtout the 4 in 1 drivers. The one thing I have noticed is that the CPU temps on my Athlon 1700+ are running in the 65 to 70 C range with XP pro without the 4 in 1s and when I run win 98 (dual boot) with the 4 in 1s I am back in the 40 to 50 C range.
Anybody else notice this?
Would the temp difference be because of the 4 in 1 s?

Thanks

No need for 4 in 1's.
I flashed my BIOS last night to get 3DMark2001SE to work. While I was there I also got the newest version of ASUS Probe 2.16.01. After installing it and flashing the BIOS, my reported CPU temps went up about 10 degrees! I don't know if it's real or not.

My Cendyne (Acer) 24x40x10 CD-RW would not read correctly until I installed the latest 4-in-1's. The tech on the Cendyne forum suggested upgrading and it solved the problem.

Everything else under XP Pro seemed to work fine before the upgrade, though.

Thanks guys,

I checked VIA's website and they say it is required for XP but not all the drivers of the 4in1 are used. Only three I think. So I went ahead and loaded them but it has not seemed to affect the temperature reading on asus probe, still about 65/70 C. AMD's website says the 1700+ should have a max temp of 96 C so I think I am still ok.
