Does William Hung knows that America is laughing at him, not with him?

I just saw the making of the video for "She Bangs" and I'm not so sure anymore. This guy was having babes all around him and he was all like "eww." Then there was the issue of his parents being at the shoot and watching over him. When they were going to shoot a scene w/ him and some dancers dancing on the street under a spewing fire hydrant, his parents were afraid he would catch a cold. He also objected cuz he doesn't want to get wet. So they gave him a raincoat. He ended up dancing with wet, scantily clad girls while in a raincoat.

Before I assumed he was smart enough to realize he knows what he's doing and taking advantage of it but I'm not so sure about him anymore after seeing him behave in the making of the video.
