from personal experience, people I met have jobs that are totally unrelated to their university/college major.

so does it matter that I choose which major?

the conclusion that I've come down to is:
select the major that is productive, enjoyable, and most importantly, a major that I can learn for a life time, not just dead memorization just for the midterm.

If you are not sure of "what you want to be when you grow up," I feel that a business administration degree will take you more places than any other degree available.

Some majors it probably doesn't make a difference. But do me a favor and go into an engineering firm and ask the engineers what they majored in. Money says it isn't political science. The four years of engineering curriculum is quite necessary, and that goes for any other of the other hard science majors as well.

Exactly....whether your major matters depends upon what field you want to go into. Not to many theatre majors working as engineers (although I know one or two that are attorneys, but that is a related field :) )

there is a good reason there are so many buisness majors at many schools. its a degree that you can get, and then do many things with. Like everybody else said though, you're not going to get an engineering job with a degree in buiness administration. most managers of engineers have engineering degrees themselves also.

good luck with your decision, and remember money isn't everything, but it does help some. :)

Why not become an optical engineer? Now there's a degree that everyone always asks, "What the hell is an optical engineer?"

experience matters a lot. so if you have 10 years experience in some field, X, but have a degree in field Y, you would get hired before some lame ass graduate who has a degree in field X. meaning, experience is KEY.

having a degree does mean something, especially when you have no experience.

Choose a major that you can get a job pretty quick when you graduate.
And a minor of "what you want to be when you grow up".

A friend of mine is a CS major with a minor in Anthopology (sp.)

Why are you in college? To learn something? Or just to get the sheepskin? If you have no single love at 18-22, then I would suggest a tough academic discipline, e.g. Biology, English Lit., Poly Sci., Mathematics, Chemistry, Greek, Latin, French, or German. You get the idea. The skills you pick up having to actually think will go a long way later in life. Although you can learn a lot in a Bus. Adm. program, most students don't. Quite a few of the jocks took, Bus. Adm., Sociology, and the wuss of them all, Communications.

Get an education, kid. You'll need it, and will never regret it.

It does matter, ALOT. You are right though many people with liberal arts degrees are working in other fields, Fry Cooks, Waitress, homemaker and cab dirver for example. If you want a job using your brain instead of your back get a "imployable" degree. That would mean a pure science, engineering, or computer science. One these will pretty much guanentee a job, if you are willing to go and find it.
