does wastefulness bother you?

It does me. I don't even know what it is, if someone just leaves water running, for example, it drives me nuts.

Right now my roommate is doing dishes/watching football, instead of doing all the dishes at once and rinsing, he does one at a time, leaving the water running the entire time. He dries each of his dishes individually and will take a 20sec break to watch tv.

Its like torture to me to see all that water just run down the drain.

:) over some things. What is weird, I couldn't care less if he took a 3 hr shower, but if he left the shower running for 1 min without getting in (or at least being in the bathroom) it would really bug me.

I was raised on a farm, water was a rare commodity, perhaps that is where it comes from.

I teach my son not to leave the water running when he brushes his teeth and not to take long showers. We also keep our heat set low during the winter and A/C set kind of high during the summer and we don't leave electric devices on in rooms we aren't in, have low power lights etc. We also recycle as much as we can and try to use most of the food we prepare (eating leftovers and such).

Yeah, waste is something I strive to minimize in my lifestyle. My next car will probably be much more efficient than my current car.

Some people seem militant about being able to live their lives however they want no matter how wasteful their lifestyle is...I don't get that.

Wasteful activities bug the hell out of me. Watching someone stand there with the water running the whole time they did dishes would get on my nerves to. I reuse everything I can, and recycle everything that's collected in my area. Heat is set to 55F, A/C is set to 78F, and I throw out 1 Target shopping bag of trash per week between me and my daughter.

I'm pretty much the same way with heat. I actually keep mine at 15C and only raise it if I'm going to be in the lower part of the house (it stays around 20ish in my office which is comfortable). Knowing that my electricity comes from a renewable source I feel slightly less bad to waste it, but I still avoid it, but it's more a financial thing. I actually have a small electric heater in my office. If I'm a bit cold I'll turn it on instead of turning up the gas furnace and heating the entire house. I actually turned down the dampers to the rooms I don't really need much heat.

I also hate wasting items such as paper. I try to reuse and recycle everything I can. I'll even take the time to clean a pizza box the best I can so I can put it in the recycling.

The sonar technicians on my submarine would take a shower before their watch and another after. For me, as a submarine mechanic responsible to operate the condenser and distiller to create that water, their multiple showers were wasteful.

I am the type to avoid wasting resources. Lights and water are turned off when not in use and heat is set low yet still comfortable for living, typically 68F.

Whenever I see food wasted, pictures of starving African people comes into my mind.

At least your roommate doesn't leave the oven at 400F and step out for 2 hours when no one is in the apt.

I'm curious, who did you vote for in the last election?

When I think of starving African people I think of the corrupt governments these people live under and realize that no amount of food in the world could prevent them from starving.
