Does VW own audi?

Text... 1964

Quick History
Volkswagen AG. is now marketing under numerous brand names. VW acquired Audi in the 1960's, NSU in the late 1960's, and merged the two divisions together (AUDI-NSU). NSU's are all but forgotten now. The most memorable model was the NSU Ro80, a rotary-engined large sedan, that was too advanced for its time. It left the market in 1977 and so did the NSU name. VW has since acquired SEAT in the late 1980's, (a spanish automaker formerly under the control of Fiat), Skoda, (a Czech auto maker) in the early 90's. The most recent acquisitions have been Bentley from Vickers; Lamborghini; and Bugatti. Control of Lamborghini has been given to Audi division. The Rolls-Royce name will go to BMW in a couple of years, but for right now, VW has the responsiblity for the brand.

To effectivly manage all the brands, VW plans to move both VW & Audi even more upscale to make room for Seat & Skoda as "entry-level" divisions. The next few years should prove interesting for the VW group as an aggressive marketing strategy takes place.

Is porsche part of the VW/Audi? I remember long time ago when my friend had an Audi5000, a lot of parts has all three logos, and someone told me they share some parts.

isn't porsche a privately owned company like BMW? Or maybe i'm just thinking of BMW and getting it confused with porsche 🙂

volkswagen doesnt own audi. not in the sense that toyota owns lexus and honda owns acura.

also, porsche is independant, but has shared parts with vw/audi for a long time

Does Audi and VW each have their own stock, or is it a conglomerate? I don't see either on NYSE or NASDAQ but I admit I don't know the correct symbol. That would probably be the simplest way to settle.

VW owns Audi. The Audi A6 and the VW Passat actually share the same platform.

Also, they have some tie-in with Porsche. The Porsche Cayenne and the VW Touareg share the same platform as well.

ford = jaguar and i think land rover?
and one of the american companies owns volvo, which i forget, its all very confusing now.
gm owns part of mitsubishi?

bah.. i used to know this stuff.

VW owns VW, Audi, Lamborghini, Seat, Skoda, Bughatti, and Bentley.

Every single Porsche ever produced has had some number of VW parts in it. No exceptions.

Toyota / Lexus are closer to each other than VW / Audi.

VAG owns the Audi brand. How much closer can you get?

Now bring the freaking 3-door A3/S3 and the Seat Leon Cupra R to the US dammit!

Ford owns the following european car makers:
  • Jaguar
    Aston Martin
    Volvo
    Land Rover

I do believe VW has controling interest in Audi, but doesn't own them outright. Kind of like Ford and Mazda.
