Does Vista require "activation" of OS on pre-built systems?

I'm specifically wondering about this scenario:

-You buy a Dell system that ships with Vista installed, and it also comes with a full Vista disc.

-You format the computer and reinstall the OS from the Vista disc.

At that point, do you ever have to activate with Microsoft to keep the OS working, or is it already activated the way XP is if you buy a new Dell with XP?

Dont know about Dell, but none of the Toshiba, Acer, Compaq, HP, Lenovo, Gateway, Sony etc laptops and desktops we sell at work do not require any kind of activation.

Just to double check-that's with Vista, and that's true even if you wipe the drive and reinstall from the included Vista CD (not a "restore" CD that just brings it back to the original state, but an actual Vista CD like Dell includes?)
