I always thought it would be cool to be able to rearrange those multiple program and windows icon on the bottom. Drag and pull in to the left etc. Most important or most used one be arrange first or to your preference.

LMK, if anyone have been using vista.

I'm not booted into Vista at the moment (the 5270 build had issues on my T42) but I don't think it allows you to do what you're asking. One major thing I don't like about Vista - or should I say IE7 as it's the default browser - is you can't arrange the toolbars and there's some major wasted space up there. It's about 50% bigger than the space taken up by Firefox (without the Bookmarks toolbar).

Can't remember what IE7 looked like in 5270, but the default toolbar in the beta 2 preview for XP is smaller than the toolbar in Firefox. Somebody on ars had a screenshot comparing the two.

Are you sure about that? I've got Firefox 1.5.0.1 and IE7 beta 2 on my XP Pro system right now. If I remove the Bookmarks toolbar from Firefox the space from the top to where a web page starts is definitely smaller than default IE7.

Using the compact menu extension, Firefox can be about 60% of the IE7 toolbar.

I don't see any bookmarks toolbar in the screenshot I posted. I haven't used Firefox in a long time, so is that screenshot not what 1.5 looks like?

I've also got FF 1.5 and IE 7 Beta 2 on my XP Pro system.

If I turn off the bookmarks toolbar from FF and have no tabs open than it is smaller than IE (because it hides the tab area); however as soon as I open a 2nd tab in FF it is larger than IE7.

If I'm browsing w/ multiple tabs I think the IE7 layout is pretty good. On the other hand I wish the tab area would go away if I only have a single page open (like FF).

I'm not a fan of tabbed browsing so I'm not comparing with/without there. Oh, and I do include the standard menu bar in my IE7. Speaking of that, I wish it could be moved to the top where it belongs too! ;)

Also, you can temporarily bring up the standard menu bar by hitting alt.

Move all navigation buttons to the menu bar & uncheck navigation bar from View.

Ah, but you can't move the buttons to the menu bar then put the navigation (address) bar following them on the same line? That's what I do with IE6 and it can't be done in IE7 (AFAIK).

Still, I like the buttons on the menu bar so I moved them there even though I didn't save any space.

Thanks!

You can move everything (including the address box, search box) on the navigation bar to the menu bar.

How do you do this? I can't see any way to drag it and despite Google searches for everything I can think of I can't find the way.

Call me OCD, but I would love this feature as well, and even more importantly, the ability to rearrange tabs in IE7.

Just click customize on the toolbar, then move all buttons along w/ address box & search box (they're moveable) to the menu bar.

Here's an example

I usually have many more buttons (around 12) on the toolbar but deleted some to make it look simple. The width of the search box can be adjusted as well using an extension.

Ahhhhhh, okay. Now I've got it exactly how I want it - all on a single line. I didn't realize I could drag the address bar up like that. Thanks! :D
