Does Vicks Vaporub w/ quarters really help with illnesses?

Cause it hurts after a while applying it on people's backs...

Is it one of those placebo effects?

well vicks itself works for me at least, but im not sure how effective rubbing it in the back with quarters is, i think that might just be an asian thing... i find it best to rub it on my throat...
