Men taking selfies

Oh god one of my friends constantly takes "selfies" in the gym bathroom, posing in front of the mirror. He's a good friend so I let him know how vain and pretentious it looks. He doesn't send them to me anymore, and we're still friends.

Dude one of my friends posts them with a duck face all the time, at the gym (with duck face), after he gets any one of a number of ridiculous hair cuts (not even cuts, looks more like he goes to the salon to get it styled)... I wonder if he knows that everyone is like WTF is wrong with you behind is back. It might be an asian thing... I know a few guys that do it acting as if its not completely feminine.

facebook annoys me, but I do not get depression from it. I logged in to it in July of 2013, and I did not come out depressed or anything. That said, due to the annoyances in me that it causes, I tell people to fuck off if they expect me to log in more than once per year, and that if my sister is doing a birthday party for my niece, I will not know about if if they talk only on face book. An email, evite, phone call, ATOT post, txt, or something else tends to work better.

lol, if you have no friends don't do facebook / etc.

My last birthday I had more people say Happy Birthday than I had friends on FB.

facebook is how people want you think their lives are going.
in reality, their life probably sucks.
so don't despair. and get rid of facebook. trust me, i did and i dont regret it.

oh, and your posts depress me too. especially your avatar. change it.

I tend to be the entertainer of my friends/family, so I have fun on Facebook 🙂
About all I use it for that these days or a few people I went to high school with.

I only look at it about once a week these days, just to see what they've been up to.

You're a bit of a downer anywhere you post so your opinion doesn't count for much.

Alky seems to think ATOT is his own personal Facebook he can go into and insult people non stop and project advice on and people won't feel insulted.

Must be a personality thing.

If facebook is your life, you have a problem. Facebook is for hunting down old friends and classmates, and for staying in touch with people you don't want to actually interact with in the real world. For anything beyond that you should be seeing people in person, that's how you form a relationship, not by pushing the "like" button.

You keep attacking me.

I like facebook. I can keep connected with friends I can't visit everyday and phone calls are distruptive.

You just posted another insult to me.

Get over it.

I like how everyone assumes that anyone who uses facebook uses it in the most stereotypically bad way they can imagine.

There are people who use facebook but don't use it to post their every move, post the most intimate personal details, etc.

Lots of ignorant people in these forums, unfortunately.

Lets me have some minor contact with a ton of old friends I'd otherwise have no communication with. Nope don't get depressed using it.

In reality, that really is how a lot of it is for them. I've monitored people's feed's for those that are the most active just to see... almost a research study....

1. Who posts the most updates?
2. Who posts the most about their "feelings" as if anyone else in the world gives a shit?
3. Who gets a lot of "Happy Birthdays!"
4. Who posts on Facebook as if it's a daily blog of "I ATE SPAGHETTI TODAY MY HUSBAND MADE IT IT WAS GOOD!".

In the end, some of the most depressed people were some of the most active. It's almost like a Robin Williams case of depression. In the end, you always saw those with the symptoms above come out of the woodshed eventually with some type of depressed state of mind, as much as they try to act like they have everything rosey and peachy.

I have rules regarding posters and if they violate those rules, I just block their posts from my newsfeed. Here are a few rules I have (and I think I've posted them here too):

1. Holy rollers -- if you're thanking God 20 times per day, you get blocked.
2. Drama queens -- BLOCKED
3. Martyrs -- "I work SO hard! Please people, tell me how awesome I am!" BLOCKED!
4. The "I need to post every 2 minutes" poster: BLOCKED

I have a couple of FB friends from my wife's side that definitely fall under #2 and #3. I couldn't really remove them as friends but went ahead and blocked them. I admit, I will occasionally go to their pages and look at their posts for lulz; my wife's cousin (who is a combo #2 and #3) is dumber than a tree stump and I get lulz reading some of her stupid shit.

I hate facebook but I hate the phone even more. So it has it's usefulness. But every time I use it I have to shudder. I literally would have almost zero contact with people if I didn't have it.

I hate people that use it for their own personal soap box and never shut up about some issues or post about their actual life. I hate helicopter moms that are so dependent on their kids for happiness and acceptance that they control every aspect of their life and can't be without them for a day, and can't stop posting about what new way they are obsessed with their kids life. I hate the girls that post a billion selfies, over and over and over and over and over and over again. And every one gets 100 likes, people just keep feeding them. I hate the girls that only post about themselves and only take and never ever give back or like other peoples stuff. Yet people keep feeding them compliments and attention. I hate the people that constantly post OTHER stuff that has nothing to do with their lives at all. Just a constant non stop stream of media crap and videos and nothing that is their own content. I hate that facebook use it the most shallow content ever, never anything deep, never any real conversations. Then there is the interface which is total garbage. I hate that everything you like or anybody else likes is seen by everyone else. I don't give a crap that you liked something on somebodies page I don't even know. Let's make it so you only see something when you actually post it on YOUR page.

I'm sure I could go on. What I'd like to see more of is just normal life, normal photos, some blog posts would be great, something with some depth, some deeper conversations. A decent amount of give and take.

And yeah I took off my birthday also so I don't have to listen to it.
