Does U-Verse internet require TV or phone?

I was wondering if I could get UVerse internet only, without getting TV or phone with it. I was eyeing the 6MB service and it's $35 with UVerse (click "Learn More..." under "AT&T U-verse High Speed Internet"), but $45 when you look at their DSL Direct plans.

As far as I know, UVerse internet does NOT require phone OR TV service.

I have UVerse service and I love it. My 6mb internet generally gets me 700kbps and it has never been out. The TV is very good as well, and the DVR is above average.

I have both 15/2 cable and the uverse max 18/1.5 The uverse has been good, The bandwidth is always there but the network isn't the greatest (lots of hops), I load balance a virtual machine and can get about 33Mb/s between both of them, Otherwise all traffic goes out the cable. Oh, and I don't have phone or tv from them. Same price as it would be in a bundle i think.

You know, when researching UVerse before I signed up for it, a lot of people said that the interleaved VDSL has a higher latency due to the fact that it is interleaved with my TV signal (pushes 55mbit to the node, fiber from there). However, I have actually noticed my ping time go DOWN when compared to my old ADSL.

All in all, the service with UVerse is far better than my ADSL has ever been, and the ADSL was far better than my experience with cable was for the ill-fated 6 months I had cable.

This is correct, Mine is also interleaved. This gives you about ~20ms to the node (in my tests), about the same of the ADSL interleaved. However if your not interleaved its much lower, ~5ms. From what im told uverse is always interleaved.

There is only one problem with a lot of the assertion made here.

Other people in other geographical area have other experiences with the service.

I.e. the locality factors are just as contributing to the variance as the technical wisdom.

Best thing to do is also to address these questions to neighbors and friends around you that are using the service.

You just have to call them to get internet only - its not avalible online.

I've got the 18mbit service, it seems to perform well at all times - very happy with it (though it could definitally use a bit more upload).

It doesn't require it technically, but marketing will often tell you that it is required.
The same way that if you call the local telco and tell them you want DSL without a phone number. Sales will swear it is required. You usually have to talk to someone higher up.

Good thing to know! Thanks!

I just helped a friends business the other day with a U-Verse install. The installer was not aware that internet was available without the TV or that it was being installed in a business but it is and has worked great so far.
