I think that some of you are misinterpreting what i'm trying to do... I'd like to look a little better, but i'm not trying to become a flipping bodybuilder. I'm mainly just trying to run up and down the field or the court for a whole game.

You seem to have 2 distinct goals: improve your physique so you look better, and increase your cardio.

For the latter, you need to hit the pavement. Run. Your calisthenics will not give you the endurance on the field that you want.

As for your comment on not becoming a bodybuilder, you would stand to beenfit by revising your attitudes on weight lifting and bodybuilding. Simply put, a well designed weight training regimen will change your physique to exactly what you want, in the fastest time possible. Most people (as in 99.9%) do not bulk up to the sterotypical bodybuilder size without extreme commitment to their training and diet.

While I appreciate the information, I think you miss the exaggeratory humor - the point was that the physical appearance aspect is actually miniscule compared to the health and endurance aspects.

If what you're doing is just trying to get 'in shape' for games with the guys (like bball or flag football or 7 man soccor or something) the best thing to do is just play a lot. Really. IF thats your goal, dont worry about "working out". Just eat right and play the games you want to play a couple times a week and you'll get in game shape quickly for these types of things.

Obviously if we're talking real competitve things (i.e. you're on your college team) then you should be doing things differently, but they would be helping you train.

Get used to that... especially if you ask anything related to fitness.

A majority of the geeks around the AT forums think they are fitness gods.
Anytime a "workout" thread is posted, there is an immediate response, most of the time with recommendations that most likely will not appeal to you.

you speak the truth, but luckily there are a few helpful posts. I'm definitly going to try new2amd's idea, though i think i might alter it... start with 1, build up until i start to feel the hints of strain, then wherever i am work down to 1. That way i can monitor my progress by how far i can go, and it'd have the warmup and cooldown integrated.
