Does this sound like a sprain or a break?

Ok, I twisted my foot tonight and I have a fairly large knot(50 cent piece diameter) on the outer edge of my right foot about 3.5 inches below my pinky toe. I can't remember the bones name, but the knot is on the outside of it and not on top. It hurts pretty bad, but I've broken other stuff before and it hurt a little more than this, but I don't know what else could cause a hard knot in that area because sprains and jams usually occur on joints.
