Does this sound crappy?

One theme throughout the movie, which plays an small but very important role, is the use of an object hitting the ground to start and end a segment of them movie. Although the objects used for these events are minimal they carry a heavy burden on their shoulders. The objects used for this theme are a red telephone, a soccer ball, a green bag and a red bag, with the red phone being used on more than one occasion during the film, but in reality only landing once. The soccer ball is only used once during the film to signify the start of the film. During the film, at the beginnings of each of the three segments, a telephone receiver lands on its base at which time the action of the segment starts. The ends of the first two action segments end with a bag hitting the ground which in turn starts the segment over with the telephone landing. The final segment ends without an object hitting the ground, which indicates the film is over; it is also followed by the movies credits, which is the final acknowledgement that the film is finished.

Also unless the dropping of the objects has some greater meaning than just signifying the start/end of something it just seems like a gratuitous metaphor with no real use.

You can't "force" art.

*Edit*

Ah, it looks like you're doing a report on a film.

What film?

Also, analyze the thing, don't regurgitate what happened in the movie.

- WHY were each of these objects used?
- What significance to the objects have in the film?
- In what context were they dropped?

I am just explaining the form of the movie using this criteria:

Once you have completed your segmentation, look for patterns of repetition and variation that operate across the film, and consider how the film cues you to form certain kinds of expectations based on these patterns. These patterns may be motifs (sonic and visual), or they may be more thematic (such as the theme of surveillance or acceleration in Speed.) Once you identify these patterns, you should discuss what narrative function they serve.

Ok well now that it's in context it makes more sense. I know what you're talking about now.

Go into more detail as far as what happens immediately before and after the dropping of the object. Show how it signals the start/end of something, what the object represents, and how it plays into the segment. Stop using the word segment so much. Use scene. 🙂
