Does this seem right? (p4 2.4c OC question)

I just built a new computer, and I'm wondering if this is right.
The system is as follows: P4 2.4c @ 2.88ghz, Corsair Value series PC3200 ram, Asus P4P800 Deluxe motherboard.

CPU-Z reports my RAM frequency as 160mhz when I overclock to 2.88ghz. But the guy here shows 440 at 3.3ghz also with PC3200 ram.

Also, is it normal for my cpu/mobo/ram combination to be unable to hit the 30% Overclock that the Asus bios offers?
 
You're milage may very.


Try doing this: make sure your pci/agi are lock of course, set the fsb/ram ratio to 5:4, set your FSB to 250MHZ. This will allow your cpu to run at 3ghz with a 1ghz fsb and having your ram running in spec at DDR400.
 
When you OC you need maxmium cooling, Besides OC is a waste of time and it only shorten the life span of your pc unless you don't give a damn

If CPUz shows 160 MHz mem speed, you are running a 3:2 mem ratio.

12 x 240 = 2.88 GHz
240 1:1 = 240 (DDR480)
240 5:4 = 192 (DDR384)
240 3:2 = 160 (DDR320)

Change your mem ratio to 5:4 on that setup.

i'm guessing the asus board automatically changed the ratios for him but
the memory ratios used with the new p4c's and at least pc3200 is 1:1, 3:2, 5:4
the stock p4c is 12 x 200 fsb. thats running sync with ddr400.
its cpu fsb speed multiplied by the ratio (1:1=1) (5:4=.8) (3:2=.667)

so for i.e. cpu 250 fsb X .8 = 200 for ram (ddr400)

240 5:4 = 192 (DDR384) 240 / 5 * 4 = 192
240 3:2 = 160 (DDR320) 240 / 3 * 2 = 160

It's pretty safe. Have you adusted the vcore setting in your attempts to overclock ? Sometimes an extra .025 or .050 volts will get you to the 30% you are looking for. Just be careful not to overdo it. And the more vcore you need to use the more important cooling is.
