i dont mean to offend OP, but you can't read a fact sheet, and you want to run quadruple SLI?

4 card sli is not that easy to setup and run.

Dig dog , this is just what i read off of new egg and i was looking for a quick answer. right now i have a $3500 3-way crossfire system setup and im looking to set up an Intel rig. So yeah i can read a fact sheet. And i can setup complex systems. I dont need some condescending arrogant smart*** making smart remarks. That is not what this website is for. New egg's specifications list just said "pci-e 16x: 5 slots". THis is why i asked.

I ran evga for the past several years and I can tell you from recent experience that they aren't the same company that they used to be. Their newer boards aren't of the same quality and I would tell you to go towards asus or gigabyte for a x99 board. http://www.asus.com/us/site/motherboards/x99/ have the lanes you're looking for.

Not sure why you would be looking at a server board, instead of the RVE which is the top of the heep X99 mainstream board? Also depending on the GPU'S Nvidia's go down in FPS with three and four way SLI, but that would be the board to have if that's what you wanna do.

While his method of doing so may leave something to be desired, he was trying to make the same point as Dave. The CPU only has 40 PCIe lanes, therefore there's no way to have 4 slots running at 16x. The board may have 5 full length slots, but the CPU determines how many lanes you have.

The asus boards have an onboard chip providing the extra pcie lanes. This setup is similar to the old evga e759 x58 mb and it works.

i do realize the cpu lane restriction and i know that it takes an onboard chip to somehow force the cpu into having 64 lanes. I am still doing research and trying to find out if this is the best possible route. I had a few bad experiences with amd and i very strongly want to switch to Intel/Nvidia.i Know from experience that setting up multiple card rigs can be a pain.

I am looking at going for the asus workstation x99 mobo with a 5960x coupled with 4 gtx980's. this is my dream machine. Idk if its smart to go with the workstation asus mobo or not though... (link is above). the reason i chose it is bc it has 4 way sli x16.. Any advice??

Don't see the need for the slots to work in X16 mode when X8 mode would be sufficient.

Radeson if that is what you want to do then go for it and be happy that you can do such an awesome machine.
