does this mean my video card is gonna get hosed?

Greetings Group,

I just upgraded my (939) system to an Intel system (E6850) and before this every game that I played with my 7900GTX played just great, never a problem.

So after the upgrade the first game that I loaded was GRAW-2...well, for what ever reasons it just doesn't work on my computer just like some games do for just about everyone, although the demo played very smooth with my video card on my 939.

Anyway, today I did the DXDIAG thing and found that my video card failed on most of the tests so does that mean anything or is that DXDIAG test a thing of the pass?

Btw, I play F.E.A.R. and Rainbow Vegas on my new system without a glitch...what the heck gives??

Thanks guys!

Usually DXDiag failing indicates that a problem exsists with either the windows installation or the Video card drivers...

Are you sure that your Power Supply is sufficient for the new system?

Does it have the 24-pin main MB connector and the PCIe connectors...?

Try switching PCIe plugs, if you have them.

Did you reinstall Windows? Could glitchy motherboard drivers be the cause of your problems?

Otherwise try a video driver cleanse (with driver cleaner) and then reinstall latest drivers. Install latest version of DX9 after that. (there is an august version already)

Well, I just DL'd and tried the GRAW2 demo and the same thing happened...a complete reboot of my system, crap I'm freaking pi$$ed. It seems like my new mobo doesn't like GRAW2 in any shape or form. SInce my new install was just the other week maybe I'll just wipe out the HDD and do another WinXP install.

But what a pain <sigh!> perhaps its a mobo driver thing but how in the world do I find that out? I know its not the video card since I played the GRAW2 demo before with it, maybe I'll install the original GRAW and see if that works...

Another thing that I have been experiencing with new install) is sometimes my monitor (22" LCD Gateway) goes completely white when I launch into Windows but what I do is turn my monitor off just for a second and then turn it back on
and everything is back to normal....seems that my mobo isn't realeasing the command to the video card to display the upcoming graphic signal (sorry for the lame tech talk)

List your PSU specs- Load ati tool and check for artifacts and see what temperature your getting. Did you install all your drivers for the board? Remove and reinstall your graphics drivers to the last whql release.

If you overclocked back off to stock and test with orthos. Does 3dmark06 run without crashing? Do your due diligence and test, Isolate the issue if you can.

Thanks guys,

Whats "ATI Tool? btw, as while playing FEAR for a long time I checked my cpu temp via Gigabytes utility and it was around 43 C <if memory serves me correct>

I origianlly installed the latest Nvidia drivers and when I couldn't play GRAW2 I ininstalled them and used some other drivers from Guru 3D or something like that :)

my PSU is a Thermaltake 550W but I dont have the model num. off the top of my head, also,
I took out my two PATA HDDs thinking that perhaps my PSU was lagging but I get the same bad results.

I would say definitely a driver issue.

Can you load and play any other game?

Yes, I am currently playing FEAR (the original) and Rainbow Vegas although Rainbow Vegas
I just played it for a very little time just to see if my card was hosed.

sounds like a dodgy windows installation, if you can run most games, but can't complete the Dxdiag tests.

Hi
Its strange though as the WinXp install went smooooth as ususal do you think there is a chance that I can do a repair WinXp to fix the problem or would you recommend a format and then

reinstall, of course I am trying not to do that but if it would repair my problem then I guess I should.

with this sort of problem a reformat is probably your best bet, it will eliminate any exsisting issues with the installation.

you could try a repair but it is unlikely to fix your problem.

Well, I reinstalled WinXP and evidently the first WinXP install was bad because there were some things that were acting up between my computer and my monitor and now after the

reinstall everything is running smooth, however, GRAW2 still does not run :( oh-well!!

I must admit I am bummed out as I wanted to play that game as I love the GRAW series a lot. Perhaps some of the new FPSs that are coming out will get my attention :D looks like the next game for me to try is ARMA <I love military games>

Stay tuned ...

Just reporting back in as last night I just installed a new PSU (650W-Antec) as someone was saying that the new generation hardware requies probably needs the newer PSUs.

Anyway, I struck out once more :( I just don't get it, why would the demo work on my older system and not a newer waaaaaay more powerful system? man-o-man am I pi$$ed.

Have you run a DX update since installing XP? You can download the DX9.0c updater from microsoft.com and run it, I've found that that isn't something that Windows Updates check.

I assume you're running the newest video drivers available, maybe you should try the 163.44 Beta drivers.

Do you have a soundcard, or anything else that could cause conflicting driver issues? What about the ram ? Is your rig oc-ed ?

I'm using the onboard sound on my 'Gigabyte' P35 mobo (model # escapes me right now but its the newsest)

I checked in the hardware profiles for any conflicts of any sort and nothing turns up, (i.e.
any yellow exclation marks) I'm using 4 gigs of pc800 (ballistix) I'll get the hardware specs when I get home tonight.

But basically its this:

a) Intel E6850 cpu

b) 'Gigabyte' P35 mobo

c) 4 gigs of pc800 (ballistix) it was originally just two gigs

d) have tried 3 different sets of Nvidia drivers and am currently using the latest from Nvidia.

e) onboard sound drivers that came with mobo CD (3-D sounds are superb)

f) Zalman heatsink/fan combo (the copper pipes are in the way of the 12vdc mobo plug) but managed to get it though.

g) not at all OC'd, am running a very vanilla system...maybe thats the problem ;)

I'm starting to think that my 7900GTX could be the problem since nothing else is working for GRAW2. So far I have played FEAR (and add-on) and Rainbow Las-Vegas and they play very smoothly.

Tonight, at some point I will load up my latest game purchases,

1-ARMA (military based hardcore stuff)

2- Half Life and the expansion pack

so stay tuned and I'll report in if it still goes crazy on me :) however, I will say this.

I am starting to regret not sticking with AMD!!!!!

Oops, I forgot to add this too..

h) two 500g SATA HDDs

i) SATA DVD burner/player

j) one 160g IDE HDD (which the mobo does not recognize)
